play. list [hour 2: classic & forgotten space music]
the weather has finally turned cold here in baltimore and it has put me in the mood for some old favorites from years gone by. this past week i was pulling out some classics by eberhard schoener and peter michael hamel for a couple of my students studying experimental sound. i realized at that point i had not listened to these discs in years and proceded to rip them for my ipod [probably not the way schoener and hamel intended these works to be heard]. while re.visiting these albums after about 10-15 years on the shelf, i began to realized how much of an impact they've had on my own approach to music and philosophy towards sound. unfortunately, it seems like the artists that have a great influence and lay the foundation for others sometimes fall by the way side for whatever reason. with this in mind i would like to dedicate the second half of this blog.cast to those artists who dare to take that step forward, but never really get the praise or recognition they deserve.
michael hoenig: departure from the northern wasteland [1978]
michael shrieve: nucleotide [1984]
eberhard schoener: sky music [1973]
peter michael hamel: colours of time i. [1980]
popul vuh: aguirre [1975]
lou reed: wind coda [2007]
