play.list 2.5 [11.23.08]

CLASSIC TRAX
One of my favorite periods in modern electronic music history that i experience first hand, while it was happening, was spawned by the chicago based WAX TRAX! For me, the label's classic heyday period was from 1986-1992. Recently, i've been revisiting many of these classic albums from my collection. Some of them didn't age too well and while it kicked ass at the time, sounds pretty cheesy by today's standards (early Front 242, In The Nursery and a few A Split Seccond tracks for instance are pretty funny.) On the other hand, I was equally surprised at how much of this material STILL sounds pretty modern. There was nothing that sounded quite like the cold electronic dissonance that many of the WAX TRAX! bands created and nothing has really come close since then. In a fit of nostalgia I decided to compile a playlist for this months blog.cast of some of my favorite WAX TRAX! moments.

Be sure to check out Chris Connelly's new book: Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible and Fried: My Life As A Revolting Cock published last year.
This was a REALLY enjoyable book. I recommend it for anyone that was even remotely into the underground electronic music scene in the US and Europe in the 80's and 90's.
